An Intern's Perspective

During the fall of my eighth grade year, living in Plano, I traveled with my family to BonTon for the first time in my life.  To be honest, no part of me wanted to serve the surrounding families that Sunday night in the Turner Courts gym; however, the Lord had completely different plans for me.  I walked into the gym, glanced around the room, and fell completely in love with the people in the community.  After only one night of meeting the kids and families from around the area, I knew this place would forever change my life.

Continuing through the course of high school, the Lord continued to develop a passion in my heart to serve and minister to people living in difficult situations.  I was completely humbled by the Lord’s power, and my heart was transformed through these kingdom relationships.

This summer I completed my third internship with H.I.S. Bridge Builders.  In the past, our teams consisted of interns from North and South Dallas with the purpose of building strong relationships with each other and ministering together in the community.  As teams joined, we experienced cultural inclusion and extensive learning about the importance of showing Christ’s love to each other and the neighborhood.

This summer my job as an intern has been differentt.  I was given the tasks of ministering to the children in Turner Courts as well as organizing and planning Vacation Bible School. I can say the different tasks and responsibilities have once again moved my heart deeply for inner-city communities, specifically BonTon.  I am now more grateful everyday for Christ’s changing and transforming power in my passion-filled heart.
