Christmas in South Dallas 2006

On Christmas Day 2006, hundreds of volunteers from Prestonwood Baptist Church, Concord Church, and many other local churches began arriving at 2:00pm. They gathered to celebrate the birth of our Savior and share the good news of his saving grace with the residents of Turner Court and the surrounding neighborhood. The volunteers were so many in number that a prayer circle went around the entire Turner Court gym. After praying over the coming hours and receiving instruction, the volunteers lined up their trucks and SUVs to fill with boxes from Feed The Children. Each resident in South Dallas received two boxes, one box of household items and one box of non-perishable food items. The residents were also given an encouraging word from the volunteers, a prayer, and an invitation to return to the Turner Courts Rec Center for a warm meal, toys for the children and gently used clothing. All who participated, volunteers and residents, were blessed this Christmas.

Mike Fechner, president and founder of H.I.S. BridgeBuilders, along with his family, began celebrating Christmas in Turner Courts many years ago. Through the years, God has brought many to join in the festivities. BridgeBuilders is thankful for the partnership with Concord Church and the pastor, Bryan Carter as well as our partnership with the Dallas Housing Authority and its CEO, Ann Lott. Their support of BridgeBuilders, their love for God, and their love for the South Dallas community was so evident this Christmas.

If you missed this wonderful opportunity in 2006, put it on your calendar for 2007!
