| H.I.S. BridgeBuilders and DISD presented an informal open house in June to research the need for an ESL class in the BonTon Community. Flyers were distributed in Turner Court and Rhoads Terrace Housing Developments along with all homes in the neighborhood. Seven Spanish-speaking families attended and were so excited about the possibility of increasing their limited knowledge of English. One of the ladies bakes bread for La Madeline Restaurants but would love to be a nurse.
In order to have a class it is necessary to have twelve to fourteen students. The ladies took several applications with them to assist in the process of enrollment. According to the latest census zip code 75215, the BonTon area, is 22% Hispanic. BridgeBuilders is excited about the possibility of developing new relationships with these Spanish-speaking residents. |
