Vacation Bible School 07 Heartland Church, a partnering church with BridgeBuilders, put on a Vacation Bible School for the children of Turner Court June 18-22. Bringing many volunteer and children's ministry resources, the team had a stage for live music and fun songs for the kids to learn, each participating child was fed dinner each evening, and a craft and game corresponded with each lesson. The children loved the high energy and overflowing love shown by all the volunteers from Heartland. The volunteers were also blessed by getting to know the children and many of their families. Katy, the key organizer of this VBS siad, "It really changed my life. I miss those kids terribly!" BridgeBuilders also organized a VBS for the kids of Turner Court and Rhoads Terrace, the neighboring city housing development, June 26-28. This week was specially chosen so that the youth group from River Terrace Church in Lansing, Michigan could come to Dallas for their summer mission trip. Six BridgeBuilders interns and 17 youth from River Terrace taught the Bible lesson, memory verse games, led crafts and got to know the children of Turner Court and Rhoads Terrace. They led one group at Rhoads Terrace in the mornng and the other in Turner Court in the afternoon. While the non-stop rain kept many children away, there was still plenty of time for fun and getting to know each other. The theme was "Taking the Plunge" so the children learned about Plunging into Obedience throught the story of the miraculous catch of fish, Plunging into Courage through the story of Jesus calming the storm, and Plunging into Service through the story of Jesus washing his disciples' feet. Not only was this a time to minister to the children, but the interns and youth from River Terrace had an eye-opening experience of getting away from what is comfortable and getting to see ministry in action and "plunging in" to participate themselves. VBS is a great time for making new friends!     VBS is also a great time for lots of FUN!
