Visit from Senator Cornyn
DALLAS—U.S. Sen. John Cornyn visited the BridgeBuilders Eye Clinic in Dallas on Thursday (December 14, 2006) to highlight the center’s unique work in providing job training and eye care to low-income residents in the area.

The non-profit clinic, founded in 1995, gives participants with comprehensive training in a marketable skill and assists them during the employment-seeking process. Through the hands-on training program, the eye clinic provides eye care and glasses to thousands of patients each year. In addition, BridgeBuilders offers services to help participants fulfill their education goals.

“This collaboration plays an important role in providing low-income residents the training and education they need to find quality jobs, care for their families and achieve independence,” Sen. Cornyn said. “I commend those involved with this initiative to improve lives and help serve those less fortunate.”

Sen. Cornyn toured the clinic and met with representatives of the participating organizations. H.I.S. BridgeBuilders, an urban outreach ministry, partners with the Dallas Housing Authority, Dallas Community College District, University of Houston College of Optometry, Prestonwood Baptist Church and other local churches.

The Dallas Housing Authority provides the building for the BridgeBuilders Eye Clinic at no cost, as the services are beneficial to many DHA residents.
