Cinco de Mayo Celebration

When knocking on Jose’s door, or any other Hispanic family’s door in the BonTon community, Carlos Sambrano (BridgeBuilders’ Spanish-speaking ministry associate) can always count on being welcomed by a smiling face. He has learned that having a consistent presence in the community is one of the greatest tools to use in breaking down the walls that divide him from ministering to these families.
Carlos was raised in a traditional, Hispanic home where food and celebration was always a great way to get families together. He used this understanding to create an opportunity to get to know the families more intimately through a cookout. Having gained a small portion of their trust, he desired to build on that foundation. This was BridgeBuilders’ first “Cinco de Mayo” celebration and the turn out was great! It was a blessing to see these families come together and bond as a community. Everyone pitched in with something whether food, drinks or in fellowship together. This great encouragement is just another brick removed from the dividing wall, bringing all closer to building up this community for Christ. However, God is revealing more so now than before, the need of unconditional love in the lives of these Hispanic families and for the gift of hope in salvation. The privilege to be able to introduce these families to that hope is amazing and Carlos looks forward to traveling the roads ahead along side these wonderful families.
