ESL Volunteers Speak

H.I.S. BridgeBuilders began offering English as a Second Language (ESL) classes in the summer of 2006. A willing volunteer, Mr. Thornton, who has a love for the Spanish-speaking community of South Dallas, teaches these classes. As the class began, a need became very obvious - childcare. Many of the ESL students needed to bring their children while they participated in this evening class. Volunteers from Prestonwood Baptist Church’s singles department stepped up to the challenge. They are committed to each Monday and Wednesday evening on a rotating schedule to minister to the children of families that otherwise might not be reached through BridgeBuilders. The time these volunteers have with the children varies depending on the need. Their ultimate goal is to share the gospel with these children however, many evenings they may find themselves assisting with homework or rocking an infant to sleep. BridgeBuilders is grateful for their ownership of this aspect of the ministry. Read below what some of the volunteers have said about their time with the children of the ESL class.

“It's a joy to be able to share God's love with these kids. Whether we're telling Bible stories, teaching memory verses, helping with homework, or playing games, relationships are being made. It's neat to be a part of a ministry like this!” ~ Laurie

“Every time we go, I realize that we could be making an eternal impact for Christ by sharing the Gospel. It is about changing future generations and making an impact that is eternal. I am blessed to be apart of it.”
~ Christine

“Let me just tell you right off the bat that it was a joy to be out there last Wednesday. So much that I’m looking forward to it again today. Thanks for giving us the chance to be a part of such a wonderful program.”~ Luis
