December 1st was the much-awaited day of the Neiman Marcus Adolphus Christmas Parade. The members of the Kids Alive Bible Study have been waiting all year for this big field trip. The event began with a lock-in on Friday night at the Turner Court Rec Center. The children trickled in dragging blankets and pillows and were followed by parents that seemed excited to give over their children for the evening. All were served pizza and Kool-Aid and allowed to play in the gym. Having the gym to themselves especially excites the kids!
After dinner, the girls painted their fingernails and made necklaces and bracelets while the boys played basketball. To wind down, the kids snuggled in front of the big screen TV to watch a Christmas movie. Then, to bed!
Early Saturday morning, everyone was excited to get ready for the parade. Four volunteers from the Young Married department at Park Cities Baptist arrived early to help drive, chaperone, and came with warm donuts and muffins. The children were assigned to the volunteer's cars and off we went.
After securing a good parade-viewing spot, we ate donuts and muffins, drank hot cocoa and hot apple cider and played games to occupy ourselves. And, then came the parade. After taking a poll, the children seemed to enjoy the marching bands and Santa the most. According to some children, it was indeed the "real" Santa that was at the parade! If you missed it, plan to attend with us next year!
