Looking Back at 2006

From the President's Desk
We thank God for this wonderful year of 2006 and are moving toward 2007 with the theme “Possess the Promise!”  The promise so clearly stated by God’s word in this Christ exalting season is that God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, so that whoever believes in Him will not perish but will have everlasting life.  It is our hope and prayer that God would continue to use our ministry to build a bridge of Christ’s love one soul at a time, here and in the 5 cities where God has planted us in the nation.  This year we are claiming Joshua 1:9, that God would grant to us a true blessing of spiritual transformation of our communities and cities; that we would have fruit in changed lives that change communities and cities for the glory of God!
Encouragement
H.I.S. BridgeBuilders Ministry Associates serve as ambassadors of Christ in five communities across the   country.  San Antonio, TX and Clarksburg, WV are new additions this year.  These “front line” missionaries bring hope and love to families and individuals who are often forgotten.  They help the helpless, serve the underserved, love the unlovely and bring peace in the midst of storms.  This summer Earl West was fatally shot as he was walking to his apartment, where he lived with his grandmother and two other siblings.  Just two weeks prior to his death, Earl gave his life to Christ and began attending a weekly Bible Study through H.I.S. BridgeBuilders.  Ministry Associates in Cedar Springs were there to minister to Earl’s family and friends and give them hope because Earl was in heaven with his Savior.  We will miss Earl but we praise God for allowing us to be a bridge to Christ for this wonderful young man.
Education and EmploymentTraining
Chris Thurman’s life was spinning out of control.  An addiction to drugs had led to many poor  decisions and he was at the end of his rope.  Chris’s grip was slipping but the Lord has a mighty hand.  He led Chris to Victory Home, a transformation center led by Reverend Anthony Anderson.  Pastor       Anthony, through God’s grace, helped Chris off drugs and then led him through months on “spiritual    training”.  When it was time, Pastor Anthony sent Chris to H.I.S. BridgeBuilders where he completed a GED and our optical training class.  Chris is now employed at Southwest Lens Laboratory and recently saw his children for the first time in three years.  We praise God for his redemption and restoration of Chris and his family.  We build communities one life at a time!
Medical
Exciting growth has taken place in both the H.I.S BridgeBuilders Eye Clinic and Dental Clinic!   In 2006 more than 10,000 patients were at the Eye Clinic and 700 at the Dental Clinic.  One of those treated at the Dental Clinic was a lady named Cassandra.  After losing several front teeth she ceased to smile and found it painful to speak in public.  Cassandra no longer spoke in her church or sang in the choir.  Thanks to Dr. Seidler and our clinic she has her smile back and is serving God in her church and community.
Global Day of Prayer
H.I.S BridgeBuilders has been the catalytic and collaborative force serving the Global Day of Prayer-Dallas for two years.  In 2006, over 100 churches and 8,000 participants worshiped together in Reunion Arena. Through the 90 Days of Blessing thousands of volunteers were mobilized for multiple projects including the building of six Habitat for Humanity homes.  Velma Mitchell’s home will be dedicated December 16.

As H.I.S. BridgeBuilders begins this 12th year we continue to be blessed by God’s favor and blessing.  This ministry is blessed  by God’s people who enable us to share  the gospel of Jesus Christ and are  passionate to  see our cities transformed for His glory.  Each one of your gifts will be used to  send ministers into the mission fields of  our city, to reach children for Christ, minister through sports, train and equip residents through our clinic and micro businesses.  Thank you for building a bridge of Christ’s love one life at a time.
