A New Career

The first BridgeBuilders Optical Dispensing class completed 8 weeks of study in late May. Seven ladies were recognized June 11, 2006 during the monthly Community Fellowship celebration. Each graduate received a Bible, bouquet of beautiful flowers, and a framed certificate from Bill J Priest Community College. The indepth training prepares students to read prescriptions, fit frames to individual patients and master the process of making a pair of glasses from start to finish.

In order to prepare each student for employment, they tour an optical laboratory and optometrist office during the required classroom schedule. In addition, a human resource representative from Essilor or Wal-Mart Optical Laboratories speaks to each class.

Numerous companies have expressed willingness to interview and hire graduates of the optical program. Four graduates of the April class have entered into new and exciting careers in the optical business.

If interested in this continuing training program, contact the H.I.S. BridgeBuilders office at Turner Court (214-565-9065).

At Community Fellowship a prayer was offered for the graduates as well as those beginning the new optical training class.
