Equipping the East Side Community in San Antonio
H.I.S. BridgeBuilders in San Antonio is beginning to see the harvest of hard work in the East Side Community. Through new training classes and collaborative Block Parties, the community is being equipped vocationally and spiritually.
The San Antonio Branch recently opened their brand new computer lab and have already begun training students in the community through weekly computer classes. Currently, there are 3 classes with 12-18 students attending each class. H.I.S. BridgeBuilders has recognized the need of computer skills in today’s job market and is seeking to equip as many community residents as possible so that they can be successful in a variety of career fields.
Having seen the success of the inaugural classes the staff in San Antonio has started a new class for adults. The class meets twice a week in the computer lab located at 1212 N Gevers Street. The lab is just across the street from Wheatley Courts neighborhood, where most of the ministry efforts are focused.
The new adult classes are every Saturday at 10:30 AM and Monday at 10:30 AM as well. These classes are open to anyone who wishes to increase their computer skills. Currently, students are learning how to perform job searches, make a resume, and have improved their typing skills. For more information about the classes contact Ruben Fechner at 512-831-0883.
H.I.S. BridgeBuilders in San Antonio has hosted several very successful Block Party in Wheatley Courts, in collaboration with San Antonio Housing Authority, God’s House, and Community Bible Church. The latest Block Party took place on Saturday, November 22 and had over 400 residents in attendance. The residents were entertained by Christian rap singers from God’s House while eating free hotdogs and receiving thanksgiving dinners. Most importantly, residents were given Bibles to take home and Pastor Clayton, of God’s House, gave his testimony. When Pastor Clayton asked people to come forward if they needed prayer over 70 residents came forward and 50 prayed to receive Christ.
This was another great chance for H.I.S. BridgeBuilders to continue building an already existing relationship with the San Antonio Housing Authority. The staff from the SAHA said that the Block Party’s have been the most successful block parties they have ever sponsored. H.I.S. BridgeBuilders is thankful for the collaborative effort of SAHA and their commitment to working with us in serving the residents of the Wheatley Courts community.
